for san francisco over the bay bridge and even parts of the east bay. we're catching a break for a areas--i do what to let you know that concord and highway 242 into walnut creek is picking up some heavy rain that is indicated by the yellowing on your screen. it is falling down at about 2 tenths of an hour. you should drive with extra caution and you will have to use your windshield wipers. >> daly city is under the yellow and there's just some light rain for the mid peninsula. it is currently drive for cupertino and sunnyvale. satellite and radar does show that there is a wider view that is associated with this system. i will have full details for the rest of the bay coming up. >> we are tracking a major hot spot for the east shore freeway. the problem is being compounded. let us talk about that accident were several lanes were blocked here for a while. the chp had to run a traffic break to clear this. this is now backed up beyond highway 4 the drive time last check was over 30 minutes. it is now climbing more because there are further problems further down. this accident has just been

outside where we have been dealing rain out there. here is the live camera looking toward san francisco. a few breaks in the clouds but those rain source moving through rapidly across the bay area. still the case right now. here we go with the maps showing you the live sweeps. you can seat enhancement in parts of the north bay. rainfall picking up south of nevado, those darker shades of green. even the yellows indicate the increase in rainfall rates. we will shift the maps, slow you more activity around the bay, not as much here but down toward pillar point for half moon bay and around the fremont area and parts of the east bay. this activity knocking on the doorsteps of livermore. wet pave helicopter on interstate 580. most of the activity in the south bay with the rainfall rates picking up for this part of the bay area. out toward saratoga. you can see the rainfall rate over an inch an hour. that's the estimate with the radar and the closer inspection toward saratoga. around campbell. around loss g atos. that's heavy rain out toward 17 as you can pick out here and we will continue to

here up from south san francisco, daly city, san bruno. pretty quiet in the south bay except for morgan hill and gilroy some shower activity. winds gusting to 49 miles an hour at sfo. a wind warning in effect. and oakland, 36 miles an hour. you can see all across the bay area, santa rosa from 41 miles an hour to san jose. we have the wind, we have the rain, we have a flash flood watch through the evening hours. so the heaviest rain will continue to sink to the south of us throughout the morning hours and the wind advisory is up through noon today. we are looking at south winds anywhere from 20 to 30 miles an hour and we are seeing the gusts already up to 50 miles an hour. so here we are on track to see the heaviest rain from the north bay into the central bay within the next hour. so stay with us. we will keep you updated. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. with all that going on and this series of storms the rivers are rising throughout the bay area. there's a flat warning this morning for the napa river. that's where abc7 news reporter kera clapper joins us live. how is it looking so far? >

reporter anne makovec is in san francisco right now watching for this morning's king tides along the embarcadero. >> reporter: good morning. i feel like singing a blondie song. the tide is rising and it could hit the bottom of the pier by the time we're expecting to see 7-foot tides which is just before 10 a.m. let's take a look at the numbers today what we're expecting at the golden gate as we climb to that 7-foot tide at 9:45, then going back and rising to 5 feet again around midnight. we'll probably see a lot more of this. this is the connector ramp from 101 to 1 in marin. now this kind of flooding normally only happens when there's a storm, but this was caused by the so-called king tides. there is a group right now trying to document these seasonal high tides to figure out where we stand when it comes to rising ocean levels. >> the california king tides help to us visualize the dramatic tidal reefs that we're already experiencing. >> reporter: king tides are not caused by global warming. they are caused by gravity. the earthed, moon and sun in position to cause the high tides

in downtown san francisco this weekend. traffic is higher than usual with shoppers and drivers packing the area in and around union square. more now from kron four's jeff bush who braved the holiday crowds. >> traffic has been crazy down here at union square but those who chose to drive had to be patient because it's been a slow roll all day long. the drive down oferrel street was a slow motion affair and it took several cycles of the traffic lights just to move a block. it was a convergence of pedestrians and other drivers and total gridlock was often the case at any given intersection within a mile of the square.
